The Baan Chiang Rai Guest House is a small value for money hotel with great rooms above a popular international restaurant in the centre of Lampang Town.
Good points about the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House
Rooms at the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House costs under 500 THB a night booked online. In terms of what you get (big rooms for a small price) this hotel represents excellent value for money.
The Baan Chiang Rai Guest House is also in a good location near the centre of town near the Tipchang Road. The Tipchang Road is the road in Lampang where the city’s most popular restaurants are located. Lampang’s only Indian food restaurant, the Indy North, is located on the Tipchang Road 600 metres walking distance from the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House. Baan Sao Nak is a pleasant 2.3 km walk away mostly along the riverside.
The rooms at Baan Chiang Rai Guest House also have balconies looking out over the nearby Wat Chiang Rai, which is a beautiful and ornate new temple which look a bit like the White Temple in Chiang Rai, and a busy street below.
Rooms at Baan Chiang Rai Guest House
The standard room size at the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House is 30 sqm, which is larger than the average room size for 4 star hotel in Bangkok. The rooms look as though they had recently been refurbished as well when we stayed in August 2019. The beds are comfortable, the air-conditioned worked and the room was fairly quiet in the night.
The rooms at the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House come with flat screen TVs, free WiFi and a good writing desk with adjacent power socket. The rooms also have small fridges. One thing we could have done with was a kettle because we found it difficult to find anyway which sells coffee early in the morning before the restaurant under the hotel itself open after 09:00.
The bathrooms are the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House are also pretty good. The shower is located in a separate area with a shower curtain which is better than you find at most budget hotels.
Facilities at the Baan Chiang Rai Guest House
The Baan Chiang Rai Guest House has very small reception area accessible via a door to the side of the downstairs restaurant. This is the only common area in the hotel. No lounge, kitchen or other communal facilities are available at this hotel.
The restaurant downstairs, however, is really good. Its called ‘@firstt steak’ and they do indeed sell steak and chips, as well as other international dishes and some good inexpensive Thai food. The restaurant also sells alcoholic drinks. We eat there twice partly because it was a convenient choice but also because we liked the food and the price.
