Ban Punmanus Guesthouse, Krabi Town

Ban Punmanus Guesthouse in Krabi Town provides air-conditioned rooms with private bathroom and balcony for 450 THB (sometimes less) a night. The Guesthouse is a 20 minute walk away from the popular river front area in Krabi Town but nonetheless a good budget option for a stay in Krabi.

Good points about Ban Punmanus Guesthouse

The Ban Punmanus Guesthouse is superb value for money. Its difficult to find decent air-conditioned rooms for a cheaper price anywhere in Thailand, particularly not in areas where you have a steady flow of foreign visitors. The only cheaper room of a similar standard I have found in Thailand was located on the main road between Udon Thani and Sakon Nakhon Provinces in an area where they very rarely (if ever) get any foreign visitors.

The only downside of the Ban Punmanus Guesthouse is that it’s located on the outskirts of the town on a road leading to the Maharaj Market, 600 metres away. The long walking distance into the town is not a massive problem, it’s just an inconvenience. If you are travelling with young children or anyone with mobility difficulties you might, however, want to pay a bit more to stay somewhere closer to the town centre. The Ban Punmanus Guesthouse is a budget option suitable for travellers willing to put up with a non-central location in order to save on the cost of room for the night.

The service at the Ban Punmanus Guesthouse is friendly and helpful, with English speaking staff on the front desk. In relation to how they treat guests cheap does not mean they don’t care about about the guests. Part of the friendliness is about trying to sell travel tickets and other extras to guests staying at the guesthouse, however, I also felt that they genuinely cared about customer satisfaction.

Rooms at Ban Punmanus Guesthouse

The rooms at the Ban Punmanus Guesthouse are large (20 sqm) with a good sized balcony. My room had two double beds in it. The decorations are slightly dated but the room had been properly cleaned before I arrived so it could not be described as dirty.

The beds, both of them, were comfortable enough and the bed linen was clean. No complaints in respect of this aspect of my stay. The climate control was good with the option of either the air-conditioning or the table fan.

My room at the Ban Punmanus Guesthouse had a fridge, kettle and a TV. For non-Thai visitors the TV is of little use as it’s not connected up to a cable or satellite TV provider which broadcasts English language channels.

The bathrooms at the Ban Punmanus Guesthouse are larger than you normally find in a budget hotel and probably the best feature in the rooms.

Facilities at the Ban Punmanus Guesthouse

Ban Punmanus Guesthouse has reliable free WiFi but no elevator, so ask for a room on a lower floor if you have difficulties climbing stairs. At reception they are quick and efficient at organising motorbike rentals and travel tickets, all of which were reasonably priced when I visit in 2019.

The Ban Punmanus Guesthouse does a small amount of catering, with a slightly overpriced breakfast available. There are tables and chairs outside the front entrance. They also sell snacks and bottle drinks in reception. If you have the energy you can get a great breakfast by walking for less than 10 minutes to the Maharaj Market which opens very early every morning, or snacks and drinks from the nearest branch of 7-Eleven opposite the Maharaj Market.
