About Travel from Koh Phi Phi to Koh Phangan
If you are planning to travel from Koh Phi Phi to Koh Phangan you have the choice of either travelling independently and organising separate tickets for those stages, or paying slightly more to take a direct service where the same company takes you the whole way. The time consuming part of the journey for those travelling independently is getting from the ferry piers in Krabi to the Krabi Town to catch a minivan and then from Surat Thani city to Donsak ferry port for the boat to Koh Phangan. The direct service goes straight from one pier to the other avoiding the lengthy connection times.

To do the journey independently you need to complete 5 separate journeys.
- Firstly, a ferry from Koh Phi Phi to a ferry pier in Krabi province.
- Secondly, a taxi from the ferry pier to Krabi Bus Terminal.
- Thirdly, a bus or minivan from Krabi Bus Terminal to Surat Thani city.
- Fourthly, a bus from Surat Thani city to Donsak ferry port.
- Fifthly, a ferry from Donsak ferry pier to Koh Phangan.
The cost saving on doing the trip independently in five stages is so small that few people would bother. The direct services with either the Seatran Discovery Company or Phantip Travel are much easier and allows travellers to complete the journey in one day, which is difficult to do if travelling independently. The last ferry to Koh Phangan leaves from Donsak Raja Ferry pier at 18:00 and if you miss it you need to spend the night in a hotel or catch the Night Boat which departs at 23.00 from Surat Thani City.
