Chaidee Mansion, Bangkok

Chaidee Mansion is a residential apartment complex on Soi 13 Sukhumvit Road with rooms to rent by the day as well as by the month. The price per apartment is about the same as a hotel room.

Good points about Chaidee Mansion

Chaidee Mansion offers apartments for rent short and long term at very affordable prices. When we stayed in December 2021 we paid 999 THB a night for a 50 sqm metre studio room. That’s very cheap compared to the nearby hotels and in terms of space and facilities you get a lot more than you do in a hotel. Chaidee Mansion very much falls into the value for money category of Bangkok accommodation, and whilst in need of modernising, this apartment complex is difficult to beat on price.

Chaidee Mansion is located on the popular lower Sukhumvit Road area. It’s a long way down S0i 13, 550 metres walking distance from the main road, but there are quite a few popular bars and restaurants nearby as well as 2 convenience stores. Very close to the front entrance is the extremely popular Hillary 11 pub and the Coffee Club, which a local favourite amongst the ex-pat community at breakfast time.

Chaidee Mansion isn’t a tourist hotel. This is somewhere that long term visitors to Bangkok, both Thai and foreign, come to stay. This will appeal to people who would rather avoid short-term foreign visitors to Bangkok and the noise they sometimes make late in the evening.

Rooms at Chaidee Mansion

Rooms at Chaidee Mansion come in a variety of sizes, from studio to two bedroom apartment. The room where we stayed was a studio apartment which was 50 sqm in size featuring a bed, a sofa, a kitchen, a bathroom and balcony. The room was much larger than a standard Bangkok hotel room which ranges from 20 to 30 sqm in floor space, and even smaller if you stay in one of the cheap guesthouses near the Khao San Road. The studio apartments are all located in a separate building to the main apartment building, which is a short walk away across a car park.

We found the bed at Chaidee Mansion comfortable. The mattress was firm but not hard, there were two pillows a person, and the beds had thin duvets. The air-conditioning units are very old but they work, as did the lights and the many electrical sockets in the room.

The bathroom in our room at Chaidee Mansion was fairly good. It had a separate shower with reasonably hot water and towels were provided. The one thing they don’t provide is toilet paper, which is to be expected as these rooms are geared towards long stay residents who would need to buy their own anyway.

The sofa and table in the room at Chaidee Mansion is useful. It’s somewhere to sit and eat in the room, as well somewhere you could set up a laptop computer and work from. The TV was disappointing. There were fewer channels than regular (free) Thai digital TV, the reception was awful also. A DVD player is provided, which is of marginal use as few people use DVDs anymore.

Facilities at Chaidee Mansion

The real selling point of the Chaidee Mansion is the in-room facilities. The kitchen comes with a microwave, a large fridge and two electric hobs. The kitchen also comes with a limited range of saucepans, plates, bowls, forks, spoons and knives. There are some supermarkets fairly near to Chaidee Mansion and you could, if you wanted, cook full meals in the room although you have lots of restaurants and street food vendors nearby so you probably wouldn’t unless you have children with you who might not like the local cuisine.

Chaidee Mansion has facilities beyond the room as well, although they appear to be little used:

  • Swimming pool
  • Fitness room
  • Children’s indoor and outdoor play areas
  • Restaurant
  • Meeting room

The other facility to make use of at Chaidee Mansion is the tuk-tuk service, which is free. You need to give the reception some notice, but the tuk-tuk will take you to the nearest metro (MRT) and skytrain (BTS) stations as well to the Terminal 21 shopping area and Bumrungrad Hospital.

Location of Chaidee Mansion

Chaidee Mansion is 600 metres walking distance from Nana BTS station.
