Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2, also known as Chiang Arcade Bus Station, is one of 3 bus terminals in Chiang Mai city.

Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 1 is the station for local services. Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2, and the nearby Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3, are stations for long distance services to many of the same destinations, except that Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 has a number of minivan services to destinations, such as Pai, that are not available from Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3.
About Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2
Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 is the original out of town long distance bus and minivan station set up after it was decided that Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 1 was unable to accommodate the growing number of services to and from Chiang Mai. After a few years Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 also reached its maximum capacity and a new bus terminal, Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3, was built on an adjacent plot of land. You can easily walk between these two bus terminals.

Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 is in an older building and has less facilities than Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3. Many of the larger transport companies, including the Green Bus Company, moved their operations from Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 to Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3. A few large transport companies, such as Sombat Tour, stayed at Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 but most of the services operating out this station are the cheap standard bus services and minivan services.
Location of Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2
Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 is located 2.6 km by road from Chiang Mai Railway Station.
Facilities at Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2
Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 has some restaurants, shops, toilets and an indoor waiting area. Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 does not have a left luggage service.

For more facilities, including a left luggage service, we suggest that you walk the short distance from Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 to Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3 which has a much wider range of facilities. You can also try the surrounding streets which have better and cheaper restaurants than those in either of the two bus terminals. There are also small hotels and guesthouses within a 5 minute walk of Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 which rent rooms for a few hours at cheaper prices than the normal daily rate. If you have to wait several hours for your bus consider spending 200 to 300 THB on a cheap room where you can have a shower, relax in bed and charge your phone or laptop.
Buy Tickets at the Bus Station
Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 has a large number of booking offices or ticket windows, mostly one for each company. Passengers need to go the ticket office for the company operating the service they want to take. Some routes are operated by more than one company so to get the best ticket you should check at several different places before deciding upon who to travel with.

To make buying a ticket even more complicated, there are four different locations in Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2 where you can buy tickets. The majority of the ticket offices for bus services are in the main building, and for the majority of the minivan services you can buy your ticket at a booth by the platform from where the minivan departs.

The two major exceptions are for services to Pai and Mae Hong Son, and Nakhonchai Air bus services. There is a separate booking office for minivan services to Pai and Mae Hong Son in a building in the car park at the rear of Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 2. Behind this office Nakhonchai Air has its own separate smaller bus terminal which is where you can buy tickets for services on Nakhonchai Air buses.
