Every year on Christmas night there is a Full Moon Party on the island of Koh Phangan. This year is a bit special and different because there is actually a Full Moon on Christmas night. It’s a good one as well as the awful weather of the last few weeks has cleared up and the clouds have gone. This picture was taken on Thong Nai Pan Yai beach, one of my top ten places to visit in Thailand.

New Year On Koh Phangan
When it comes to Christmas time on Koh Phangan the locals do not need there to be an actual Full Moon in order to stage a party. On most years they do three: one on the actual Full Moon night, one on Christmas night, and one of New Year’s Eve. This year it is only two because the Full Moon coincided with Christmas Day.
Parties Are big Business On Koh Phangan
These parties are the main source of income for a lot of businesses on the island and hence the reason for wanting to hold as many as they can get away with. By the time December comes most people working or doing business on the island are running short of cash because the number of people wanting to visit really goes down October through to middle to late December because that is when the rains come to the South Gulf of Thailand. A succession of parties in a short space of time gets some money in everyone’s pocket.
And Why Not?
Good luck to them. Everyone deserves the right to make a living, and Merry Christmas to you all. I am off to apply my glow paint and go raving on the beach. Toddle Pip!
