There are five companies providing joint bus and ferry services from Bangkok to Koh Samui whose tickets you can book in advance online. We recommend travelling with the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company which operates a twice daily service from the Khao San Road to Koh Samui.
Bus Times from Bangkok to Koh Samui
There are lots of different services to chose from. The more expensive services use buses fitted with fewer seats to give passengers more room. Only the 06:00 departure with the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company completes the journey during daylight hours.

Lomprayah to Koh Samui
The Lomprayah service leaves from the Bowon Niwet Road, which is about 300 metres away from the Khao San Road. However, before you board you first need to check in about 45 minutes before departure at the Lomprayah booking office, which is easy to find as it is located at the Eastern end of Soi Rambutri which only 2 minutes walk away from Khao San Road.
- The first stage of the journey is a 7 hour 30 minutes journey by bus to the ferry pier.
- The second stage of the journey is high speed catamaran ferry with an air-conditioned cabin to Koh Samui.

Other Travel Companies
There are other cheaper options, including the Government bus, which depart from the Khao San Road area and the Southern bus terminal. I do not recommend these other services because the trip to the Southern bus terminal takes a long time (it is on the other side of the Chao Phraya river) with no rail or metro connection, and some of the other providers of the service from the Khao San Road to Koh Samui have a bad reputation for safety and theft from luggage, as well as being unreliable.
Arrival In Koh Samui
The Lomprayah service arrives in Koh Samui at Mae Nam Pier. The pier is some distance from the main road where you can find cheaper local transport in the form of a songthaew (converted pick up truck). The best strategy is to speak to the staff at the food service point on the Lomprayah catarmaran after you board to arrange a pre-booked transfer. They charge 150 THB per person to any point on the Island.
