About Travel to Bangkok
Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal is located 22 km to the west of Central Bangkok in Thonburi, which is on the other side of the Chao Phraya River from Bangkok. The Southern Bus Terminal is large, with plenty of facilities including the multi-level SC Plaza, on the top floor of which is a Thai Passport office. The Southern Bus Terminal is, however, less convenient in terms of local transport into Central Bangkok. The only form of local public transport from the Southern Bus Terminal is city bus services which can be notoriously slow for the journey to the city centre. One of the faster of these slow bus services is Bus #556 which goes to Suvarnabhumi Airport via Democracy Monument. Democracy Monument is walking distance from the Khao San Road, which is a popular destination for younger visitors to Thailand.

For a faster journey from the Southern Bus Terminal into Central Bangkok you can take a meter taxi the whole way, which will cost you around 200 THB on the meter depending on your final destination. Alternatively, you can take a meter taxi about half the distance to Central Bangkok to join either the MRT (metro) or BTS (overhead suburban railway network) which will be a cheaper option if you are travelling alone, but about the same cost as taking a taxi the whole if you are travelling in a group of 2 to 3 people. The closest BTS station is Bang Wa BTS Station, which is 9.1 km by road from the Southern Bus Terminal, and the closest MRT station is Bang Khun Non MRT Station, which is 8.4 km by road from the Southern Bus Terminal.
