About Kantiang Bay

Kantiang Bay is 1 km long wide white sand beach which is curved and backed by forest. Kantiang Bay has a moderate amount of development on the beach front. It’s not as busy as Klong Dao Beach in the north of Koh Lanta, but busier than Bamboo Beach and Ao Nui Beach further to the south of the island. As a general rule the further south you travel from the main port town of Saladan the quieter it becomes on Koh Lanta and Kantiang Bay is fairly far south.

Besides the standard resort restaurants there are a number of more interesting independent businesses in the area. On the beach itself Aqua Bar and Why Not Bar are lively in the evening. Why Not Bar at the north end of Kantiang Bay has live music and fire shows most nights during high season. There are also some cheaper places to eat on the beach such as Same Same But Different Restaurant towards the south end of the beach and several places in the village a short walk along the road to the north end of Kantiang Bay, such as Po-Pla and Baan Seafood. The central part of Kantiang Bay and the hill behind is dominated by the fairly new Pimalai Resort & Spa, which represents a leap in the standard of accommodation of Koh Lanta, which has previously always been known as a ‘cheap and cheerful’ destination. Rooms at Pimalai Resort & Spa cost between 12,900 THB a night for the standard single room and 115,710 a night for a 3 bedroom villa, although you can get much lower rates than these if you book the Pimalai Resort & Spa online. The Pimalai Resort & Spa is, however, only 1 of 7 resorts in the area. At completely the other end of the scale you could choose to stay at the friendly Kantaing Boutique Homestay whose room rates start at 250 THB per night, which basically means you could stay there for around two months for the same price as it would cost you for a night at the Pimalai Resort & Spa.
