The Khaosan Art Hotel is a better than average budget hotel located near to the Khao San Road. This hotel is one of the few budget hotels in Bangkok which has river views from its room balconies.
Good points about the Khaosan Art Hotel
The Khaosan Art Hotel has a good location. The main entrance to the hotel is on the Chana Songkhram Alley, which is a narrow side road off the lower end of popular Ram Butri Road. The main part of the building, however, is on the riverside Phra Arthit Road and it is from this side of the building that you get the riverside views. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, including a good and relatively cheap Indian restaurant opposite the entrance to the hotel, however, its nowhere as noisy as it would be if you stayed on the Khao San Road itself.
Travelling to and from the Khaosan Art Hotel is also relatively easy. There several public bus stops on the Phra Arthit Road as well as a Chao Phraya Express Boat Pier. The Chao Phraya Express Boat service is useful for travelling to and from this part of Bangkok, which is not currently connected to either of Bangkok’s two modern and fast suburban railway systems, the BTS and the MRT. An easy and cheap way to travel from the Khaosan Art Hotel to the Northern Bus Terminal is to use the Chao Phraya Express Boat service.
The Khaosan Art Hotel also has a popular restaurant on the ground floor. The restaurant has an extensive menu, including a wide range of Western dishes. The restaurant is also busy at breakfast time serving both guests and non-guests.
Rooms at Khaosan Art Hotel
The Khaosan Art Hotel has a range of different room types. The standard and superior rooms, which are the rooms with balconies, are fairly compact rooms. The bed takes up most of the space in the room, and the TV is mounted on the wall in front of the bed. For the price the room size is fairly standard for the area.
I found the beds at the Khaosan Art Hotel to be comfortable and it was quiet at night so I slept well during my 2 night stay.
The bathrooms at the Khaosan Art Hotel are OK. The shower is mounted on the wall beside the toliet and it doesn’t spray directly onto the toilet. The water temperature in the shower is adjustable and it gets fairly hot if you turn up the temperature up.
The room balconies at the Khaosan Art Hotel are a good size with a bench seat. The views from the balconies are impressive. The Chao Phraya River is clearly visible behind a period building on the river bank. You also get a good view of the busy Phra Arthit Road below. The balconies are a pleasnat place to sit out in the late afternoon and evening and look at the river and activity on the road below.
Facilities at the Khaosan Art Hotel
Before the reception desk at the Khaosan Art Hotel is the smarly decorated Casa Picasso Restaurant. This busy restaurant becomes quite lively in the evening as place for people to meet and drink.
The Khaosan Art Hotel doesn’t have any other facilities than the restaurant on the ground floor. If you want a gym then there are private gyms in the area, including the Muay Thai Street Gym which is less than 100 metres walk away and open to the public at a day rate as well as weekly and monthly rates.
The room facilities at the Khaosan Art Hotel are satisfactory. The rooms come with a small security box and a kettle, along with cups and free sachets of coffee and tea bags.
