Klong Khong Beach is 2.6 km stretch of white sand beach on the island of Koh Lanta in Thailand.

Klong Khong Beach has a long standing reputation as Koh Lanta’s ‘hippie’ beach with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly locals, cheap accommodation and great nightlife attracting longer term visitors.
About Klong Khong Beach
Klong Khong Beach is the third major beach to the south of Saladan Town on Koh Lanta Yai, the main island in the cluster of islands which form Koh Lanta. Klong Khong Beach. also known as Haad Khlong Khong, is wedged between Phra Ae Beach, the longest beach on the island, and Klong Nin Beach.

There are quite a few resorts, bar and restaurants both on Klong Khong Beach and the road running parallel to the beach which forms Klong Khong Village. Most of the businesses here are family owned and run, with the larger commercial developers opting to do business on other parts of the island. This has a major impact on the character and pricing of Klong Khong Beach which is a bit cheaper than other areas on Koh Lanta.

Klong Khong Beach has not seen major commercial development because the beach has significant tidal fluctuations. At high tide you can swim off all parts of Klong Khong Beach, however, at low tide the water level can drop as much 2 metres exposing a rocky shoreline. In terms of swimming Klong Khong Beach is less than perfect and this has put off investors. The tidal flows do, however, expose a long stretch of rock pools from which locals collect crabs and other edible sea life. Children will enjoy exploring the beach at low tide.

Despite its reputation as a ‘hippie’ beach Klong Khong Beach attracts a broad range of people. You will see a lot of families staying there as well as younger people staying for several weeks or months at a time. Easy access to the main town, value for money places to stay and to eat, and a peaceful ambience appeals to a particular type of holiday maker and the experience of staying on Klong Khong Beach is unique, there is no other beach quite like it in Thailand.

Klong Khong Beach has a lot of independent bars which put on party nights, live music and fire shows. This is the kind of nightlife which appeals to independent travellers more than the neon lights of Pattaya Beach or the expensive modern bars in Chaweng on Koh Samui.

Klong Khong Beach is, however, far from noisy. The beach is so long with so many part of the beach front with are undeveloped the bars can play music until late at night without bothering the people staying in the resorts.

The liveliest bar on Klong Khong Beach is the 6ixcert Bar which is tucked away right at the bottom end of the beach, in an area with a very rocky shoreline. The party nights at 6ixcret are well known across Koh Lanta and they attract a lot of people, and go on pretty much all night long until the dawn comes fuelled by ‘special shakes’ and dance music.
