The Masons Arms is an English style pub near Koh Phangan’s main port town on Thong Sala. When we say ‘English style pub’ we mean it literally as the building is a pretty near exact of copy of the original owner’s favourite pub in England. It comes complete with mock Tudor exterior and English style pub interior. They serve pints of beer here on tap from the bar, as well as waitress service.

The menu is extensive, and includes Thai food but the ‘star’ attraction is the Western food. They serve everything from full roasts (every day of the week) to a scotch egg salad as pictured below. To the best of my knowledge this is the only place in Koh Phangan you can get a scotch egg. The portions are very large and when I go with my wife we normally share a starter and main. We are used to Thai portions and the quantity of food you get at the Masons Arms is much larger. This said, the food is great and I always have to attempt to finish it even if I feel uncomfortable. My menu recommendations are the gammon and chips and the roast chicken dinner.

They often have specials and recently I have tried the scotch egg salad and the warm smoked haddock salad. Very passable attempts in my view. It is difficult to recreate English food in Thailand and they do it well here at the Masons Arms.

For lighter snacks try the sandwiches. English sausage in white bread sounds simple but if you are not familiar with the restaurant scene in Thailand then you won’t appreciate how difficult it is to get it right. Well done to the Masons Arms. If you visit Koh Phangan and you want Western (particularly English) food then definitely head down to the Masons Arms and wash it done with a proper pint of beer or cider. They have several different ones on tap here at any one time. When I last visited in March 2020 an English sausage sandwich cost 80 THB and a pint of Thai beer was 120 THB.
