The Honey House 1 is a budget hotel located on a side street off the Sukhumvit Road. Despite getting generally poor reviews on TripAdvisor and other review sites, the Honey House 1 is a popular choice with frequent visitors to Bangkok. This restaurant/hotel has been running for a long time and is successful for reason: its an affordable option in a lively part of Bangkok where the room rate have been increasing rapidly over the last few years making staying near the Sukhumvit Road an option, for the most part, only available to people with a higher budget to spend during a short holiday in Thailand.
Good points about Honey House 1
The Honey House 1 is great value for money. Its the only place left on the lower Sukhumvit Road where you can get a good-sized air-conditioned room for under 1,000 THB a night. Its certainly not the best hotel in the area, but it may well be the best value for money hotel in the area. The people who write bad reviews about this place simply haven’t grasped that in order to get a better standard of room on the lower Sukhumvit Road you really need to pay at least 1,800 THB a night, nearly double the room rate at the Honey House 1.

The Honey House 1 is located at the Sukhumvit Road end of Soi 22. This means it an easy walk to the BTS (sky train) and MRT (underground). Popular areas such as Soi 5 on the Sukhumvit Road are still walkable (1.8 km) but not close. Soi 22 itself has a lot of bars and restaurants, which may or may not be to your tastes. If Soi 22 does not have what you are looking for then there are plenty of places eat and drink not too far away on the Sukhumvit Road itself and other nearby side streets off the Sukhumvit Road.
The third thing I liked about the Honey House 1 was the friendly informal atmosphere. This is a small hotel run by the owner and a collection of staff with a good attitude, but bad English language skills. This is a relaxed place with a cheap restaurant and bar where you will feel comfortable staying. The Honey House 1 is best described as a ‘guesthouse’ located in a relatively expensive part of Bangkok. You can find similar places near the Khao San Road but no other places like this on the lower Sukhumvit Road.
Rooms at the Honey House 1
The rooms at the Honey House 1 are comfortable if slightly peculiar. The room are a decent size with a table and chairs suitable for eating in the room slotted in the side of the beds. Strange pillow also. But other than that these are nice enough rooms.

The rooms have air-conditioning, fridge, free-WiFi and satellite TV. The TV had English language sport and film channels. There was no in-room safe, but there was free water provided and towels. Good facilities considering the room rate of under 1,000 THB per night.

The bathrooms at the Honey House 1 are adequate. The bathroom in the room I stayed in was clean and the water from the shower was hot. The bathroom also had a soap and shampoo dispenser as well as toilet paper.
Facilities at the Honey House 1
The hotel reception and restaurant is in a different building close by to where the rooms are located. I considered this a good thing because the noise from the busy restaurant could not be heard from my room. The restaurant is busy because its cheap and has a large outdoor dining area. The restaurant serves affordable Thai food, some of it very good, as well as Western dishes which are OK but less good.

In the accommodation building there is a shared lounge area where you are not permitted to smoke. Smoking is not allowed in the rooms. The accommodation building does not have a lift so you need to be able to make it up a single flight of stairs with your bags in order to stay at the Honey House 1.

The Honey House 1 is located on a short no through road off Soi 22. On the same road there are other restaurants including an mid-range Thai restaurant, Bangkok’s only vegetarian Italian restaurant (Govinda’s) and an Indian restaurant. There is also a popular late night massage house.
