Rome Place is a 72 room purpose built hotel located in Phuket Town in Thailand. Rome Place offers large air-conditioned rooms with balconies and private bathrooms at around 600 THB a night booked online.
Good points about Rome Place
Rome Place offers pretty much everything you need from a hotel. The room are large, there are in-room amenities, and the hotel is centrally located. The reason the hotel is so cheap is because its located in Phuket Town which is 30 minutes drive from the nearest swimming beach. Phuket Town is an interesting place and is developing as a tourist destination in its own right, but the demand for hotel rooms simply isn’t there so hotels like Rome Place offer exceptional value for money to attract customers.
Rome Place is located just south of the popular Old Town area. From the front of the hotel it’s a 850 metres walk to the Thalang Road and 950 metres walk to Phuket Bus Terminal 1. There are regular minivan services to Patong Beach from Phuket Bus Terminal 1 which cost 50 THB each way, and as well as services to other parts of the island, which means a smart traveller could take advantage of the value for money option of staying at Rome Place and use it as a base for visits to destinations across Phuket.
For the money Rome Place is an excellent choice, and the hotel is probably the town’s best accommodation option for the budget conscious traveller who wants a comfortable room at an affordable price.
Rooms at Rome Place
The rooms at Rome Place have floor space of 25 sqm, which is 5 to 10 sqm larger than the room size you normally get in Thailand in this price range. The rooms in fact feel even larger because they are long and thin with a large glassing door at the far end leading onto a sizeable balcony. The rooms are so big that each has a table and two chairs which you get eat from or move to the balcony for a very pleasant breakfast spot.
Some of the rooms at Rome Place have double beds but most have twin beds, which makes sense commercial for the hotel. The beds are comfortable and bed sheets are clean.
All the rooms at Rome Place have cable TV with English language channels, a fridge and a wardrobe. There was no kettle in the room I stayed in.
The private bathrooms at Rome Place are adequate with hot water coming out of the showers. The hotel made a slight error in not devoting more of the room space to the bathroom, and fitting shower walls. as this would have made the rooms more comfortable, but nonetheless for 600 THB the bathrooms are still pretty good by Thailand standards.
You get a great view from rooms on the upper levels of Rome Place which is 6 storeys high. Guests here are likely to make good use of the balconies because of this view and the breezes which keep them cool.
Facilities at the Rome Place
Rome Place offers inexpensive room service and has a restaurant area on the ground floor in the lobby. A basic breakfast costs 70 THB a person if its purchased separately from the room. This said, the hotel is in the centre of the Phuket largest town so there are plenty of place to eat near to the hotel as well as a small shop directly opposite the entrance to hotel.
Rome Place also has an elevator which is good because otherwise if you staying on the upper floors you would have a lot of stairs to climb.
