Tandoori Flames Phuket is an Indian food restaurant located on a side street off the Thawewong Road which runs most of the length of Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand.

Tandoori Flames Phuket describes itself as ‘Indian fine dining’ and this description is largely true, with excellent service, smart decor and prices to match the ‘fine dining’ description.
About Tandoori Flames Phuket
Tandoori Flames Phuket is an attractive restaurant. Thereare indoor and outside seating areas. The location a short distance from the main road makes sitting outside, with fans in place, a pleasant experience. The majority of diners choose to sit inside which is air-conditioned. The restaurant also has an upstairs dining room which is ideal for large groups wanting privacy and no concerns about disturbing other diners. The decoration of the restaurant is modern with an Indian feel to it.

The menu at the Tandoori Flames Phuket is partly what you might expect to find in a restaurant in India and partly what you might expect to find in a standard Indian restaurant in the UK. England has developed its own distinctive style of Indian food, most famously with the chicken tikka masala which is served at this restaurant. Tandoori Flames Phuket also offers some dishes which are popular in India but which you won’t find in UK Indian restaurants, such as pav bhaji which is a vegetable stew served with buttered soft white rolls. The main attraction of the the menu is the wide range of tandoori dishes, along with the breads made in the tandoor. The tandoori selection is the major selling point of the menu at this restaurant.

Our verdict on the food at Tandoori Flames Phuket is that the food is better suited to the tastes of the Indian diner than it is the European palate. The dishes we tried we distinctly salty, which is the way that they are commonly served in India, and whilst by no means unpleasant European diners are generally inclined to prefer less salty food with the subtly of the spices and herbs more prominent. This said, the food is markedly better than the other Indian restaurants in Patong. Our other criticism about this restaurant is value for money. Non-vegetarian curries are priced from 280 to 399 THB each, with similar prices for the tandoori dishes, and the cheapest rice dish is 99 THB for plain steamed basmati rice. This is a similar price to the much creative modern Indian dishes you can find at the best Indian restaurants in Bangkok, and generally a third more expensive than you normally pay at Indian restaurants in Thailand. This isn’t surprising, however, as Phuket tends to be more expensive than the rest of Thailand and the food at Tandoori Flames Phuket is in line with this pricing. Overall we liked this restaurant a lot, the owner is on hand every night and very friendly, and we would definitely visit again but not too often as its too expensive for what you get.
