About Travel to Nong Bua Lamphu
Nong Bua Lamphu is a relatively small town of just over 20,000 permanent residents located 52 km by road to the south west of the much larger city of Udon Thani. The name, Nong Bua Lamphu, is a reference to the large pond that is located in the centre of the town and near a shrine to King Naresuan, who visited the lake following a war between the Lao Kingdom of Lang Xan and the Burmese, their common enemy. Nong Bua Lamphu is not entirely devoid of things to see, city centre temple Wat Si Koon Muang is worth visiting and the town has a lively night market, however, the town itself has no major tourist attractions and few people come to the town for tourism purposes. Nong Bus Lamphu does though have a range of hotels and its the best place to find somewhere to stay overnight in the area.

The main points of interest for visitors to Nong Bua Lamphu are all someway outside the town centre and to see them you need a vehicle. The most famous of these attractions is Phu Phan Noi Viewpoint, which is a hill overlooking Nong Bua Lamphu that you can drive to in around 15 minutes from Nong Bua Lamphu. Other places to visit in the nearby vicinity include a fossil museum (displaying local finds) and Namtok Thao To Forest Park, which has a significant waterfall best visited after during or straight after the rainy season.
