This is because drivers rarely agree to use their meters and instead charge fixed fees which vary according to individual drivers and how much they believe they can successfully charge particular customers. As a guide, expect to pay around 250 THB for a taxi from Phuket Bus Terminal 2 to Phuket Town and from 500 to 600 THB for a taxi from Phuket Bus Terminal 2 to Patong.

A much cheaper option is to take the shared taxi service which operates on a fixed route between Phuket Bus Terminal 2 and Phuket Bus Terminal 1. Phuket Bus Terminal 1 is located in the centre of Phuket Town and is a local transport hub for bus and minivan services to many popular destinations throughout the island.

Shared taxi services from Phuket Bus Terminal 2 to Phuket Bus Terminal 2 depart every 20 minutes from around 06:00 until 20:00 every day. Passengers should wait for the service at Platform 12 of Phuket Bus Terminal 2. Payment for this service needs to be made in cash after you board the vehicle.

Beaches in Phuket

Phuket Town is an interesting place to visit, with plenty of accommodation, restaurants, shops, and some interesting historical and cultural attractions such as the Chinpracha House and the Jui Tui Shrine. What Phuket Town doesn’t have, however, is a swimming beach either in or near the town.

Phuket has over 40 beaches, nearly all of which are located on the west coast of the island. The most visited, and heavily developed, beachside destination in Phuket is Patong. Patong has a 3 km long beach which is good for swimming during the tourist season. From Phuket Town it’s a 14 km journey by road to Patong.

Patong is not, however, the only beach in Phuket and some visitors prefer not to go to Patong because it’s too busy. Immediately of the south of Patong is Karon Beach, which is nearly as developed as Patong, and to the south of that is Kata Beach, which tends to be a lot less busy. For families and travellers looking for more peace and quiet, and less anti-social behaviour, we recommend trying one of the beaches to the north of Patong, such as Surin Beach or Kamala Beach.
