About Travel from Khao Lak to Khao Sok National Park


There are two entrances to Khao Sok National Park: the Western Entrance which you enter by road, and the Eastern Entrance to the park, which a boat pier on the massive Cheow Lan Lake, which occupies 165 square kilometres of the park’s total area of 739 square kilometres. The Western Entrance to the park is around 60 km from Khao Lak and this is where the Call Me Taxi service from Khao Lak to Khao Sok takes it’s passengers.

On the approach road to the Western Entrance to the park there is a good range of hotels and restaurants, and a few small shops. The accommodation inside the national park is very basic, except for a small number of luxury private floating resorts which are relatively expensive. Near to Western Entrance is a canopy walkway and the park headquarters. There are also some good trails into the jungle which are suitable for walking without a guide, however, for longer walks into the jungle to caves and waterfalls you need to take guide. Guides are not that expensive and helpful in locating things of interest, such as the world’s largest flower, growing to over a metre wide. Khao Sok National Park is also full of wildlife including birds, monkeys and large predators, such as bears, leopards and a few tigers.

The Western Entrance (Ratchaprapha Pier) to the Khao Sok National Park is the place to go for boats on Cheow Lan Lake, and the place you need to go to reach all of floating bungalow resort. You need to negotiate directly with the boat operator at Ratchaprapha Pier to arrange a boat trip. The boat are wooden and will hold up to 10 passengers. You can’t buy a individual ticket for boat but you can agree to share the cost with other people waiting for a boat. The cost of a 2 to 3 hour boat trip is around 2,000 THB. For people travelling alone, or with one other person, sharing a boat with another couple for some solo travellers offers a big cost saving, and perhaps a chance to make some new friends.
