About Travel to Hua Hin

Hua Hin is a fairly large coastal city that’s a popular tourist destination. Hua Hin is also an ideal place to stay for a few days to break up the long journey from Khao Sok National Park to Bangkok. It’s located about 200 km by road to the south of Bangkok.

Hua Hin Beach

Hua Hin’s principal tourist attraction is its beach, which is known as Hua Hin Beach. It stretches south 5 km from the centre of the city. During the main tourist season, from January through to the end of September, it’s generally safe to swim. The only part of the beach which ever gets busy is at the top end near the city centre and the Hilton Hua Hin Resort.

Night Markets in Hua Hin

Another feature of Hua Hin that’s very popular with visitors is its night time markets. Hua Hin does have late night bars where alcohol is consumed, however, the city tends to attract a lot of Thai visitors and older foreign visitors and late night bars aren’t the mainstay of the city’s nightlife. Hua Hin’s night markets are the most popular evening time destination for the majority of tourists.

Hua Hin has 4 main night markets, the busiest of which is the one located closest to Hua Hin Railway Station:

• Hua Hin Night Market (500 metres from Hua Hin Railway Station).
• Grand Market (1.5 km from Hua Hin Railway Station).
• Tamarind Market (4 km from Hua Hin Railway Station).
• Cicada Market (4 km from Hua Hin Railway Station).

Recreational Facilities in Hua Hin

Hua Hin has a wide range of man-made visitors attractions which are popular with families and sporting enthusiasts. Most notably the city has 2 large water parks (Vana Nava Water Jungle and Black Mountain Water Park) as well as around a dozen golf courses, the most famous of which are Pineapple Valley Golf Club Hua Hin and Black Mountain Golf Club.

Seafood Restaurants

Another of Hua Hin’s major attractions is its seafood. The cheapest places to consume high quality cooked food seafood in Hua Hin are from the small food stalls in the city’s night markets. For a more luxurious dining experience that’s very popular with Thai visitors try one of the seafood restaurants on the Nares Damri Road in the city centre. The special feature of these restaurants is that they have dining areas located on wooden fishing piers. The freshly cooked fish is complemented by the sea views.

Cultural Activities

There are 4 main cultural attractions to visit near Hua Hin:

• The closest of these to the city is Khao Takiab, which is about 5 km by road to the south of the city centre at the southern end of Hua Hin Beach. Khao Takiab, also known as Chopstick Hill, is a small hill rising to 270 metres above sea level with a range of shrines, statues, and a small temple. The hill is also home to a large troop of wild monkeys.
• The next closest attraction is Rajabhakti Park, which is 9 km by road to the south of Hua Hin City. Rajabhakti Park features 7 giant statues of famous kings of Thailand.
• 18 km to the north of Hua Hin City, the Mrigadayavan Palace is a royal residence which is open to the public when not being used for official duties. The palace features wooden buildings on stilts close to the beach, positioned in way to maximise the cooling effects of the coastal breezes. The palace was constructed in the 1920s for use by the royal family to escape the heat of Bangkok in the summer months.
• Huaymongkol Temple is a large Buddhist temple located 19 km by road to the east of Hua Hin City. The most famous feature of the temple is a 12 metre high statue of a famous monk. The temple also features a number of other statues and ornate buildings, as well as large landscaped gardens. It’s a popular destination for Thai visitors particularly on public holidays.
