About Travel to Koh Kradan

Koh Kradan is a tiny island, 3 km long by 1 km wide, located off the West Coast of Thailand to the South of Koh Lanta. Koh Kradan is part of a cluster 4 small islands, all of which are popular with tourists. To the North of Koh Kradan is Koh Ngai, to the East is Koh Muk, and to the South is the largest of the 4 islands, Koh Libong. What makes Koh Kradan special amongst these 4 islands is that it has the best beaches, and the trasnparency of the coastal waters is similar to the Maldives on a good day.

The main beach on Koh Kradan is on the East Coast of the island, and this is where most of the accommodation is located. Other beaches, such as Ao Nieng Beach, Sunset Beach and Mali Sunset Beach can be reached from the main beach either by boat or by manageable walks through the heavily forested interior of the island.

Koh Kradan has no roads, no mains electric, ATM machine or medical facility. There is also no local settlement, just resorts and a small number of other businesses all located on the edge of the various beaches. Electricity comes from generators and all food and drink comes from the mainland by small boat. For this reason everything is a lot more expensive on Koh Kradan than it is on larger and better connected islands such as Koh Lanta. For example, expect to pay at least 1,000 THB a night for least expensive room and double the normal price, or more, for all food and drink. However, given the beauty of the beaches, the clear water, and small reefs located a short swim from the shoreline, it’s well worth paying the money to stay overnight on Koh Kradan.
