About Travel to Koh Kradan
Koh Kradan is loctaed in the centre of a cluster of 4 islands to the South of Koh Lanta, off the the West Coast of Thailand. Trang Airport is the closest airport to Koh Kradan. Koh Muk and Koh Ngai are to the North of Koh Kradan and Koh Libong, the other island in the cluster of 4, is located to the South.
Development on Koh Kradan
Koh Kradan is a small island, measuring only 3 km by 1 km at its widest. Most of the island lies within a national park, and the centre of the island is entirely undeveloped forest with narrow footpaths. There are no roads on Koh Kradan, nor cars, nor mains electric, nor an ATM machine. Nor does Koh Kradan have a village. The only development on the island is beach side resorts and a small number of independent shops, bars and restaurants on the main East Coast beach, known simply as Koh Kradan Beach.

Beaches in Koh Kradan
What Koh Kradan does have, however, is some of the best beaches in Thailand. Thin strips of perfect white sand are bordered by clear sea waters with nearby islands visible in the background. It’s a great place to go snorkelling with reefs close to the beach on both sides of the island. For these reasons Koh Kradan Beach frequently makes it into top 10 lists of the best beaches in the world and is also a popular destination for day trippers.
Staying Overnight in Koh Kradan
One of the advantages of staying overnight in Koh Kradan is that you get to enjoy a much quieter island before the day trippers turn up, around 11:00, and after they leave, which is usually around 14:00 to 15:00.
The disadvantage of staying on Koh Kradan is that it’s relatively expensive for accommodation and food. Very basic bungalows cost 1,000 THB a night upwards and for air-conditioning you need to pay at least 5,000 THB a night.
Food in Koh Kradan
Except for the island headquarters of the national park service, which has a restaurant serving cheaper Thai food and drinks, expect to pay 2 to 3 times what you might normally pay on the mainland for all food and drink. The culinary highlight of Koh Kradan is Italian food, with several of the larger resorts on the island being managed by Italian people.
