About Travel from Koh Lipe to Bangkok

The journey by bus from Koh Lipe to Bangkok has three stages. The first stage of the journey is a 2 hour journey in a shared speed boat from Koh Lipe to Pak Bara Pier on the mainland in Satun Province. Passengers board the speed boat in Koh Lipe via a floating plastic pontoon moored to the beach. It’s fairly easier to get on and off the speed boat with the staff taking luggage from passengers to store in the front part of the speed boat for the journey. The boat will have a single toilet. On arrival at Pak Bara Pier passengers will transfer to a bus or minivan for the second stage of the journey, which is by road 124 km to Hat Yai. This second stage of the journey also takes around 2 hours as the road because the road for the first part of the journey is narrow and traffic moves fairly slowly until joining a main road about halfway to Hat Yai.

The arrival point in Hat Yai is Hat Yai Bus Station. At Hat Yai Bus Terminal passengers have a wait of up to 2 hours before boarding the bus for the 941 km journey overnight to Bangkok. Hat Yai Bus Station is located 2 km away from the busiest part of Hat Yai City. There are toilets and places to eat in the bus station, which is large. For more and better food options and a supermarket we suggest that you leave the bus station via the main pedestrian entrance and explore the street in front of the station, which has both food stalls and inside restaurants and cafes. On arrival at Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal we recommend that you take a meter taxi to either Bang Wa BTS station or the closer Lak Song MRT station for onward travel into Central Bangkok.
