About Travel to Koh Bulone

Koh Bulone is a tiny island located 15 km off the coast of Satun Province in Southern Thailand. Very few people go to Koh Bulone, it’s very underdeveloped, and there only are a small number of scheduled speedboat and ferry services connecting Koh Bulone to both Pak Bara Pier on the mainland and Koh Lipe to the south.

Seasons on Koh Bulone

Koh Bulone closes almost entirely during the rainy season from June to October each year, and there are no scheduled ferry or speedboat services to and from the island during that period. November through to April tends to be the busiest period in Koh Bulone.

About Koh Bulone

Koh Bulone is 3 km long by 1.2 km. It has no roads or cars, and to get around the island you need to walk along a narrow path through dense jungle. However, that tends not to present too much of a problem for most visitors and it takes less than an hour to walk all the way across the island.

Koh Bulone is not currently connected to the mainland electrical supply, and the electricity generated locally by solar power and generators tends only to be switched on from around 18:00 to 23:00 every evening. Koh Bulone also has no ATM machine and no hospital. Beyond basic food and drink, anything visitors might require during their stay needs to be brought with them from the mainland.

Koh Bulone has four main beaches, School Beach (also known as White Sand Beach), Ao Phangka Yai, Ao Phangka Noi and Mango Bay. The most developed of these beaches, and the best, is School Beach. There is also a small village in the centre of the island and a cluster of municipal buildings, such as a school and a medical centre, located in the east of the island behind School Beach.

Accommodation on Koh Bulone

The accommodation on Koh Bulone is mostly very basic, and there are no luxury resorts. Koh Bulone is one of the few places in Thailand where you can still find fan cooled bungalows right on the beach available to rent at very cheap prices. The two best resorts on the island, Bulone Resort and Pansand Resort, are both located on School Beach.

Activities on Koh Bulone

Koh Bulone is somewhere you need to make your own entertainment. During the day swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and going on walks around the island are the only activities available on Koh Bulone. The island has no nightlife whatsoever, although you can find bars which will stay open for you until the electricity goes off.
