About Travel to Koh Ngai

Koh Ngai is one of a cluster of 4 islands off the West Coast of Thailand in Trang Province. The other 3 islands in this cluster are Koh Muk, Koh Libong and Koh Kradan.

Koh Ngai is a small island, 4 km long by 2 km at its widest point, which is largely undeveloped. The island has clusters of resorts and a few indpendent restaurants and shops around 4 beaches. The interior of the island is largely undistrubed jungle. Koh Ngai has no roads and no motorised land transport. To travel from one part of the island to another you need to either walk around the coast, along a joungle trail or take a boat. For this reason most visitors to Koh Ngai tend to stay put near their resort for most of their visit, which isn´t a hardship as the beaches are very good and the water is good for swimming and snorkelling. Koh Ngai also has 3 diving companies and plenty of good dive sites nearby.

Accommodation and food in Koh Ngai are more slightly expensive than in the larger Koh Muk and a lot more expensive than on the mainland. For this reason a lot of people who visit Koh Ngai do so on day trips. Those people who pay extra to stay on Koh Ngai, or are willing to stay in less comfortable accommodation, get to enjoy the island before the day trippers arrive and after they depart in the middle of the afternoon. If you are combining a trip to Koh Ngai with a stay on Koh Muk we recommend staying 2 nights on Koh Ngai as a day is longer enough to explore the island.
