About Travel to Koh Yao Noi
Koh Yao Noi, which means ‘small long island’, is located off the West Coast of Thailand near the centre of the Phang Nga Bay about halfway between Krabi and Phuket. Koh Yao Noi, along with the Koh Yao Yai, is an increasingly popular holiday destination with a growing number of very luxurious resorts, such as the stylish Cape Kudu Hotel and the Six Senses Yao Noi.
Koh Yao Noi is growing in popularity
The main reason why Koh Yao Noi is becoming so popular is because it’s far less busy and far less developed than most of the better known beach destinations in Thailand. Phuket, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Samui have become very busy over the last 10 years and for many travellers destinations like these have lost the charm that made them popular in the first place. Koh Yao Noi, on the other hand, hasn’t feached the point of over saturation in terms of either visitor numbers or facilities for those visitors.

Koh Yao Noi Island
Koh Yao Noi is 11 km long by 7 km at its widest point. The island has three main beaches (Thao Khao, Klong Jark and Pasai Beach) alongside other much smaller and nearly deserted beaches accessible via dirt tracks leading off the island’s main ring road. The busiest parts of Koh Yao Noi are on the South and East Coasts, particularly Klong Jark where Cape Kudu Hotel and Six Senses Yao Noi are located.
Unlike some of the smaller island further to the South, such as Koh Kradan, Koh Yao Noi has a full range of amentities such as mains electric, ATM machines, a medical centre and a single branch of 7-Eleven. The island also has plenty of independent restaurants and cafe, and a smaller number of bars.
Things to do in Koh Yao Noi
The most popular activity on Koh Yao Noi, after relaxing on the beach, is exploring the island on a rented bike or car. It takes around 2 hours to travel the full distance around the island on a small motorbike and there are plenty of things to see on route. As well as secluded beaches, the island has 13 villages inhabited mostly by Muslim people of the Chao Ley ethnic group who, as well as working in the tourist industry, fish and farm locally.
Tours around Phang Nga bay are also popular. Koh Yao Noi is located in the middle of the bay so it’s easier to visit many of the most interesting islands without having to travel as far as you would if you took a tour from Phuket or Krabi.
Koh Yao Noi also has a professionally run yoga centre and a Muay Thai gym with classes for foreigners.
