There are two parts to the journey from Koh Samet to Pattaya: a sea crossing to from the island to the mainland, and then a journey by road from the mainland ferry pier to Pattaya City.

Koh Samet is located only 6.3 km from mainland ferry pier in Ban Phe, which is in Rayong Province. By shared speedboat the journey from Na Dan Pier in Koh Samet to Ban Phe on the mainland is scheduled to take 10 to 15 minutes. By wooden ferry the same journey takes about 20 minutes.

Being quick and cheap to visit is one of the reasons why Koh Samet is a popular choice for holiday makers, particularly Thai tourists, on short breaks. The busiest days for travel to and from Koh Samet tend to be at the weekends and on Thai public holidays.

Journey by Road

The distance by road from Ban Phe to Walking Street, which is in the centre of Pattaya City, is 83 km. The estimated driving time for the journey is 1 hour 21 minutes.

In theory the total journey from Koh Samet to Pattaya should take under 2 hours, including allowing 10 to 20 minutes for all passengers to disembark the ferry or speedboat and then board a bus or minivan for the remainder of the journey. Most of the joint ferry and bus services from Koh Samet to Pattaya, however, allow more time because they need to drive around the city dropping off passengers at a variety of different hotels.

Visitor Attractions in Pattaya

There are lots of things to do and see in Pattaya. It’s a city that caters to lots of different types of tourists, from lots of different countries. One aspect of the city is the bars and entertainment venues catering predominantly to foreign male tourists. These types of bars and venues are clustered together in certain parts of the very centre of the city, such as Walking Street and Soi LK Metro, and do not represent the city as a whole.

In fact the most visited attractions in the city are more much family oriented, and include:

• Water parks: Pattaya has two major water parks, Ramayana Water Park and Cartoon Network Amazone.
• Beaches: Pattaya’s city centre beach, known simply as Pattaya Beach, is 3 km long and it gets very busy. Other nearby beaches include the 6 km long Jomtien Beach, the 1.2 km long Wong Amat Beach, and the nearby island of Koh Larn which has 6 even better beaches.
• Religious Attractions: Pattaya is a relatively new city and doesn’t have any ancient temples. It does, however, have several more recently created religious centres that are popular visitor attractions including Buddha Mountain, the Sanctuary of Truth, and Wat Phra Yai.
• Exotic Animal Centres: Also popular are centres near the city where exotic wildlife is on display to tourists. The most visited of these centres are Pattaya Dolphin World, Pattaya Elephant Village, Pattaya Dolphin World, and The Million Years Stone Park & Pattaya Crocodile Farm.
