About Travel to Koh Nangyuan
Koh Nangyuan is a cluster of three small islands joined by a sand bar, and located 600 metres to the west of Koh Tao. Together this cluster of three islets is roughly 1.3 km long and 500 metres wide. The smaller of the three islands, which is the middle island, has the island’s only ferry pier and the island’s single resort.
Access to Koh Nangyuan
Access to Koh Nangyuan is restricted. The island has opening hours and an entrance fee:
- Opening hours: 09:00 to 17:00 (except for overnight guests at Nangyuan Island Dive Resort)
- Entrance fee:
- Foreign visitors: 100 THB
- Thai nationals: 30 THB
The other major restriction is that visitors are not allowed to bring any type of plastic bottle to the island. Visitors need to purchase drinks in glass bottles from outlets on the island.
Tour Groups on Koh Nangyuan
During the tourist high season, which runs from December to October each year, Koh Nangyuan receives lots of visitors, the vast majority of whom are on day trips to the island. As well as the Lomprayah service to Koh Nangyuan, you can reach the island by local boat from Koh Tao for 200 to 300 THB return, and Koh Nangyuan is also a popular stop for speedboat tours from Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.
What this means is that Koh Nangyuan tends to get very busy from around 09:45, when the Lomprayah service arrives, until around 16:00 when most of the tour groups will have departed from the island. The best times of day to be in Koh Nangyuan are from around 06:30 until 09:45 and then again from 16:00 until 18:30 because these are the daylight hours when the island has its fewest visitors.

Accommodation in Koh Nangyuan
Koh Nangyuan has only one hotel, Nangyuan Island Dive Resort. The restaurant at Nangyuan Island Dive Resort provides buffet lunches to visiting tour groups and other non-guests are able to eat in the restaurant.
Nangyuan Island Dive Resort is relatively expensive. Guests pay a premium for the resort’s unique location, as well as the additional expenses involved in supplying and staffing a business on a small island. The hotel’s website quotes the following room rates for 2025/2026 period:

Activities in Koh Nangyuan
Koh Nangyuan is a very small island and there are only a few activities to do whilst you are there. The main reason for coming to the island is to see it. It’s small, beautiful, and unique.
The things you can do whilst in Koh Nangyuan include:
- Climb to the Viewpoint: On the southern most of the three islets there is a viewpoint which can reach by walking for 15 to 20 minutes up a moderately steep path. Most visitors to Koh Nangyuan will climb to the viewpoint during their visit as this is where you can clearly see the other islets and the sand bars that connect them.
- Spending time on the beach: A popular activity for visitors to the island is to sunbathe on the sandbanks. Remember to bring sandals or other appropriate footwear because the sand is largely broken pieces of dead coral rather than fine grains.
- Snorkelling: There’s an abundance of fish, and some areas of corals, very close to the shoreline in Koh Nangyuan. It’s a great snorkelling location.
- Scuba Diving: Nangyuan Island Dive Resort has a PADI certified diving school that caters to absolute beginners as well as more experienced divers. There are several excellent dive sites very close to Koh Nangyuan.
