About Travel to Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is a very different type of island destination to Koh Yao Yai. One of the differences is the geography of the island, with Koh Phi Phi being more hilly and the local road network covering only part of the island as a consequence. The other major difference is the massive number of tourists which Koh Phi Phi attracts.
Tonsai Village
Tonsai Village is located in the small flatter area in the centre of the island between two large hills, and this is where the island’s main ferry port is located. The greater majority of visitors make it no further than Tonsai Village and this is where they base themselves for the duration of their visit.
Tonsai Village is one of the most intensively developed parts of Thailand with very narrow streets packed with guesthouses, bars, restaurants and shops. Similarly the village’s swimming beach, Loh Dalum Beach, is lined with bars, restaurants and hotels, all very close together.
Koh Phi Phi attracts a lot of younger visitors who like to stay up late and drink. It can be difficult to sleep in Tonsai Village as a consequence. It’s that sort of place.

Other Places to Stay on Koh Phi Phi
There other places to stay in Koh Phi Phi than Tonsai Village, and staying somewhere else is something we recommend for families with younger children and anyone else seeking a peaceful destination for their holiday.
One option is Long Beach, which is close to Tonsai Village if you travel by local taxi boat, but a 45 minute walk away. This puts off a lot of visitors and keeps it a lot quieter. There are several hotels on Long Beach, the best of which are generally considered to be Phi Phi Long Beach Resort & Villa and Phi Phi The Beach Resort.
Further to the North of the island, and more difficult reach, is the popular Leam Thong Beach. Leam Thong Beach has great scenery and some good resorts, particularly the beach front P. P. Erawan Palms Resort.
