About Travel to Chiang Mai


Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3 is located 4.3 km to the east of Chiang Mai’s Old Town on the other side of the Ping River.

Travel to Chiang Mai City Centre

The cheapest way to travel from Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3 to Chiang Mai Old Town is to take a red shared taxi. These shared taxi services depart from inside the bus station. There is a kiosk and waiting area for this service, which costs a fixed amount of 30 THB per person. The red shared taxi services go past the popular riverside area on route to the old town. Alternatively you can take a tuk-tuk, which should cost around 100 THB to any destination within the old town.

Tourist Attractions in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai City’s main tourist attractions, which are temples such as Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang, are located inside the compact Old Town area of Chiang Mai which is surrounded by a moat and sections of the old city walls. Within the old town there is plenty of budget accommodation as well as some boutique hotels. For larger hotels, and more lively nightlife, try the riverside area near the busy Chang Klan Road. Many visitors to Chiang Mai prefer to stay in the riverside area overnight and visit the old town in the day time.

Popular out of town attractions include the hill top Wat Doi Suthep and Mae Sa Elephant Camp, both of which are within a 1 hour drive from Chiang Mai city centre.
