About Travel to Ao Nang

During the west coast tourist season (November to March) Ao Nang is one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations. It’s also a good place to stay overnight whilst spending the day visiting other more interesting parts of mainland Krabi Province.

About Ao Nang Town

Ao Nang is a compact town centred around its 1.4 km long white sand beach. The beach is the big attraction of Ao Nang, as well as the ease with which tourists can reach Ao Nang via Krabi international Airport, and the wide range of hotels, bars and restaurants. Ao Nang is popular with families. There is a wide enough variety of food on offer to satisfy children who refuse to eat the unfamiliar cuisine of Thailand.

Ao Nang also has some nightlife. There are plenty of sports bars and other lively places to visit in the evening. Ao Nang even has a small road with adult entertainment venues called Royal City Avenue.

The other place nearby where some visitors choose to stay, Krabi Town, has far fewer restaurants and bars, no beach and not as a wide range of hotels to choose from. Ao Nang is for most visitors the most pleasant place to stay overnight in mainland Krabi Province.

Places to Visit near Ao Nang

Local transport links are good in Ao Nang and motorbikes and cars can be rented fairly cheaply. This makes it easy and inexpensive to take day trips from Ao Nang to a number of significant local points of interest.

• Krabi Town: Shared white taxi services ply the route between Ao Nang and Krabi Town. The one way fare is 50 THB and the journey takes around 30 minutes. Krabi Town has several interesting markets and a very pleasant riverside area.
• Railay: Local wooden boat services to Railay depart from Ao Nang. The return service departs from Railay West Beach. The journey takes about 10 minutes and costs 100 THB per person each way before 18:00, when the price starts to go up. Railay is a hilly peninsula with no road access, but 4 great beaches and some spectacular scenery.
• Wat Tham Suea: Located 8 km to the north of Krabi Town, to reach Wat Tham Suea visitors either need their own vehicle, or to take a taxi from Ao Nang or Krabi Town. The two main attractions of Wat Tham Suea, also known as the Tiger Cave Temple, are its hilltop shrine and the caves after which the temple is named.
