About Travel to Phuket
Good Luck Lanta Tour services from Phang Nga to Phuket terminate at Phuket Bus Terminal 1, which is in the centre of Phuket Town. Phuket Town is an interest destination in its own right which is becoming increasingly popular with visitors to the island.
Phuket Town has an old quarter with more magnificent Sino-Portuguese style buildings dating back to the late 19th Century and the early 20th Century when Phuket had a thriving tin mining industry. Lots of Chinese people immigrated to Phuket to work in the tin mining industry and some become very rich and built mansions in Phuket Town, such as the Chinpracha House, a few of which are now open to visitors. There remains a large community of the descendants of these Chinese settlers in Phuket Town, and there are a number of interesting shrines, shops and a museum related to this group which are well worth visiting.
Phuket Town also represents good value for money, with lots of inexpensive hotels and a wide range of restaurants. The town’s night markets also attract large numbers of tourists.
To travel beyond Phuket Town there are low cost shared taxi and minivan services departing from Phuket Bus Terminal 1 to destinations across Phuket, including a cheap local shared taxi service to Phuket Bus Terminal 2, which is Phuket’s long distance bus terminal. To reach Patong, which is Phuket’s most popular beach resort destination, you can take one of the hourly shared minivan services that departs from Phuket Bus Terminal 1. Patong has a long beach, lots of bars and restaurants, and accommodation to suit every budget. Patong, however, is one of the less suitable destinations for families.
