About Travel to Phuket
Of the two different arrival points for services from Railay to Phuket, Rassada Pier is the most convenient for those travelling to the beach resorts in the southern part of the island. Bang Rong Pier is in the north of Phuket and much closer to the airport than Rassada Pier.
Travel from Rassada Pier
Rassada Pier is located 4 km to the south of Phuket Town. For budget conscious travellers we advise taking a shared minivan or shared taxi from Rassada Pier to Phuket Town for onward travel in Phuket. Inexpensive local minivan and shared taxi services to a variety of destinations depart from Phuket Bus Terminal 1 which is right in the centre of Phuket Town.
Shared minivan services, as well as taxis, depart from the entrance to Rassada Pier. For shared taxi services to Phuket Town you need to walk to the nearby Anuphasphuketkarn Road.

Bang Rong Pier is located 23 km by road from Phuket Town and 31 km from Patong. Phuket International Airport, however, is only 18 km away from Bang Rong Pier. Expect to pay 700 THB in a taxi to reach Phuket Town and 950 THB for the journey to Patong. You can also complete the journey to Phuket Town more cheaply by flagging down one of the blue coloured shared taxis on the main road outside the ferry pier.
Where to stay in Phuket
There are several popular beach side towns on the south west coast of Phuket where the majority of visitors choose to stay. The most popular of these is Patong which has an excellent beach, a wide range of accommodation, and a variety of food outlets including well known Western franchise restaurants. Patong also has a notorious ‘Walking Street’ on the Bangla Road which is popular with single men, but less so with families.
Phuket Town itself is an increasingly popular destination for visitors, even if only on day trips. Phuket Town doesn’t have a beach or a Bangla Road style area, but it does have some interesting cultural attractions. In the latter part of the 19th Century, and the early part of the 20th Century, Phuket Town was the prosperous centre of the island’s tin mining industry. Lots of Chinese immigrants settled in the town and built a variety of Chinese influenced buildings. The most notable of these are the grand Sino-Portuguese style mansions in the city centre. Some of these magnificent private houses, for example the Chinpracha House, have been opened to the public or repurposed into hotels and restaurants.
