Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1 is the main long distance bus station in Udon Thani and it’s conveniently located in the city centre only 700 metres walking distance from Udon Thai Railway Station.

There are two other major stations in Udon Thani:

• Private long distance bus services operate from a stop out CentralPlaza which is only 270 metres walk from Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1.
• Udon Thani Bus Terminal 2, which is an out of town bus station located 5.4 km to the west with only long distance bus services to largely the same destinations as those you can reach from Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1.

About Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1

Udon Thani Bus Station 1 is the city’s main transport hub for minivan and bus services to local and intercity destinations. For this reason you need to check carefully which services will suit you best. Some of the bus services stop at lots of small towns and take an indirect route to other larger towns and cities. Unless you are planning to go to one of these small towns you probably want to make sure that you travel on a more direct bus service.

If you want to travel to destinations in the south of Thailand then you need to take a bus to Bangkok and change there. Most bus services from Udon Thani terminate at Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal. For services to the south of Thailand you will need to make your way from there to the Southern Bus Terminal or change to travelling by train. Trains to the south of Thailand depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal which is only a short taxi ride away from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal.

Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1 is a city centre railway station close to the popular Udon Thani Night Market and many of the city’s hotels. Before you pay for transport to Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1 check to see whether you can simply walk there from where you are staying, which is a healthy option and will save you money.

Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1 is old style bus station most of which is outside under a large metal roof. This bus station doesn’t have a great range of facilities but it is very close to lots of shops and the city’s largest shopping centre, CentralPlaza, which sells everything you might possibly be looking for and well as being air-conditioned.

• A small shop selling drinks and snacks near the toilets.

There is also a separate counter for direct bus services to Laos. These bus services to Laos can only be booked on the day of travel and by passengers with either a Lao passport or a visa for Laos which they have applied for in advance; bus services from Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1 to Laos will not wait around for passengers to procure a visa on arrival for Laos.
