Walking Street is perhaps a slight misleading description of what is essentially a weekend night market. Walking Street is also spread over several streets rather than one street.

In comparison to other tourist markets in South East Asia, Walking Street in Krabi Town is pretty good. There are a wide variety of things on sale, some of which is very good quality and interesting. There are no fixed prices at Walking Street and what you pay depends on how good your negotiating skills are, which stall you go to, and how many items you buy. This said, the pricing is not as aggressive as some of the better known tourist markets in Thailand such as Ao Nang Night Market or Pat Pong Night Market in Bangkok.

The central part Walking Street is where the majority of the food stalls are located. There is wide variety of different foods on sale and it’s more oriented to the foreign market than what you would find in other night markets in other parts of Thailand where fewer foreign visitors go. This said, a lot of Thai people come here to eat which is good indication that you can find food vendors offering value for money.

In front of the stage at Krabi Town’s Walking Street is the market’s main seating area. The idea is that you bring the food you buy at this night market and consume it at one of the tables whilst enjoying the show. There are also two stalls selling alcoholic drinks. To the right hand side of the stage is a stall selling cold bottled beer and to the left hand side a converted VW Campervan selling cocktails. Credit where credit is due. The municipal authorities and tourist board in Krabi Town have done a great job of creating a well organised night market that both tourists and local enjoy and use regularly. Other places in Thailand could learn a lot from Krabi Town.
