I am flying into Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok for the first time next month. I want to take a taxi into Bangkok, but I am worried because I have heard that there are lots of scams involving taxis at Bangkok Airport, any advice?

The best thing to do is to go to the Ground Floor and use the Taxi service organised by the Airport. There are desks and a queuing system to get a taxi as shown in the picture below.
Queuing System
The way the system works is that once you reach the desk the staff call a taxi driver forward and tell them your destination. You are given a receipt with the name and registration number of the Taxi driver.
Taxi Fare into Central Bangkok
You pay the meter taxi fare, plus a surcharge, and tollway fees. To the Sukhumvit Road the meter fare will be around 200 THB, the surcharge is currently 50 THB and the toll fees 70 THB, making a total cost of around 300 to 350 THB ($9 to $10) depending on where you go.
Problems With Taxis
If there are any problems there is a number you can call and make a complaint. Because of this the vast majority of driver will not try to scam you because their permit to operate the lucrative route out of the airport will be revoked.
